The favorite in my Boy Scouting days, this Dutch Oven Pop Up Pizza Recipe is a pizza like no other. Warm and soothing after a long day camping in the rain, don’t be afraid to try adding in olives, pepperoni, or other ingredients.
Dutch Oven Pizza
A great spin on pizza in the Dutch Oven. Try adding in other ingredients based on what you like on pizza.
- 2 lbs hamburger
- 30 oz spaghetti sause
- 8 oz mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 cups milk
- 4 eggs
- 2 cups Flour
Preheat the Dutch Oven
Brown the ground beef and drain the fat
While the beef is browning, in a mixing bowl, mix the vegetable oil, milk, eggs, and flower
Add the spaghetti sauce to the ground beef. Cover with the mozzarella cheese
Pour the topping mixture over the entire surface of the beef, sauce, and cheese. Do not stir
Sprinkle the top with Parmesan cheese
Cover the Dutch Oven and bake 45 to 60 minutes
Check for the first time at 45 minutes and when the vast majority of the topping is cooked it is time to eat
Be ready to add a second round of charcoal to keep the temperature up at around 20 minutes or this can take a very long time to finish. Generally, the topping doesn't cook evenly and so the dish is done when most of the topping is cooked or it appears the water content down in the meat/sauce is low... don't burn it.
12 inch oven, high bottom heat for browning then standard heat for baking.
