If you need to feed breakfast to a family or a hungry patrol this is a great dump-style dish straight from the Dutch Oven. I personally prefer to use half of the suggested bread for a more “eggy” morning than a “bready” morning… Adjust to your taste.
A great feed-the-family or feed-the-patrol dump-style breakfast that comes out warm and gives you plenty of energy for the day.
- 6 eggs
- 1 smaller loaf of bread
- 1 lb cheddar cheese
- 2 pkgs brown and serve sausage
- 1 cup milk
Preheat the Dutch Oven
Beat the eggs and milk in a bowl, set aside
Cut sausage into 1-inch chunks, add to the oven
Break up the loaf of bread into 1 to 2-inch chunks, add to the oven
Add bread, sausage, and 1/2 of the shredded cheese into the oven, mixing them together
Pour the egg mixture over the bread
Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese on top
Cover and bake for about one hour, until egg is done
This works well in a 10-inch Dutch Oven but will cook faster in a 12-inch oven using typical charcoal recommendations. Be sure to get a second batch of charcoal ready for use and apply 30 minutes into cooking or this can take forever to finish.
