This Baked Apples in the Dutch Oven recipe is so simple and incorporates soda, which is an amazing novelty in Dutch Oven cooking. Have fun trying different spices over the apples for all sorts of fun flavors.
A fun and simple recipe with apples, soda, and plenty of room for your own spice.
- 8 apples, cored
- 1 16-oz soda pop, sugar-free strawberry, orange, or cherry
- sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg or both
Preheat the Dutch Oven
Place cored apples in the oven
Pour soda over apples
Sprinkle desired space over apples
Cover and bake for 30 minutes
Vary the number of apples as you like. Generally, this fits in a 12-inch Dutch Oven, as long as the apples aren't too large.
Consider spicing this up with cinnamon or nutmeg or even some heat before closing the lid
